BIOGRAPHY

Dark Oath was formed in 2009, in Coimbra, Portugal, by guitarists Joël Martins and José Bertolo, joined shortly after by vocalist Carlos Pereira, bassist Emerson Nunes and drummer Pedro Galvão.

Debuting live in early 2010, they went to Ultrasound Studios Moita, and at the hands of Hugo Andrade and Nuno Pardal as sound engineers and producers, their first EP, "Under a Blackened Sky", was released that same year. With this set of songs, the band toured extensively through the country, sharing the stages with multiple national and international bands.

In 2012, after vocalist Sara Leitão joined the band and took Carlos Pereira's place, the second EP, "Journey Back Home", wich was recorded, mixed and produced by the band (at the time with limited equipment and knowledge), was released with an unfortunate poor sound quality but necessary to promote the new line-up and songs, which was followed by more extensive touring.

In 2013, José Bértolo, Emerson Nunes and Pedro Galvão parted ways with the band. Bassist Afonso Aguiar and guitarist Sérgio Pinheiro joined the band. With a steady and focused line-up, it was time to write a full-lenght record, taking a break from the stages to focus entirely on the album.

Meanwhile, WormHoleDeath Records took an interest and offered a record deal to which the band agreed and signed. Late 2015, with the album almost done, the band welcomes Tiago Correia (Analepsy, Brutal Brain Damage) as their live drummer.

After multiple rough patches along the band's journey, "When Fire Engulfs the Earth", Dark Oath's first album, recorded by Paulo Lopes at SoundVision Studios, mixed and mastered by Miguel Tereso, and produced by the band, it was released through WormHoleDeath Records in early 2016.

With Nordic-inspired Epic Melodic Death / Dark Metal DARK OATH try to score points by their debut album "When Fire engulfs the Earth" focuses on epic and sweeping tracks. The album refer to Pagan Lyrics and enter this with Symphonic / Viking metal influences a more powerful expression. All this can be initially quite good, as the mix of melody, aggression and grandeur is made entirely. But over time - of which there are a considerable one lot on the album, finally there is a playing time of over an hour - flattens the disc visibly than that DARK OATH stingy with a more varied songwriting something.

Solid debut for the Portuguese Dark Oath, offering a Melodic Death Metal impregnated and Symphonic Epic Metal, many labels to frame an album that even digress a bit ', finds its way and a good dose of originality. "When Fire engulfs the Earth" has the personality of singer Sara Leitão, which loads all the pieces of a fair amount of aggression and energy, and a very accurate production.

Tracks like "The Tree of Life", "Watchman of Gods" and the title track itself, consistently increase the shot, although all nine pieces proposed slip away homogeneous and pleasant. We are facing a job that draws freely from secure channels already traced, but which is able to develop many good ideas, with excellent technique. The Dark Oath not strabiliano, but bored and open to a future with many possibilities to explore, as can be seen in "Death of Northern Sons" and "Brother's Fall".

A little 'confidence never hurts, and we wait to see how things unfold this group, while listening recommended if you like raw and powerful sounds, but contaminated with very catchy melodies, on the tacky threshold.
