Order to Ruin - Lunar Asylum (Full-Length Album - 2017) - Bandcamp Stream

Time goes by and Germany’s underground warriors ORDER TO RUIN once again have locked themselves in the cellar of mastermind Denis to create a new album only some months after “Where Future Shadows Unfold”. The outcome is called “Lunar Asylum” and is album number six in their short band history (plus 2 EPs).

What I really like a lot is the fact, that they slightly change their style on every album but mostly in unexpected areas. This time the band changed their guitar sound a bit and the rhythm guitar has a slight HM2 painting now which brings more heaviness into the band’s sound. Together with Mike's rough vocals, more grunted than screamed, the band has a new rough fundament which sounds very well und fits good to the band's main sound which still is the Gothenburg styled melodic Death Metal. The best comparison which comes to my mind is the one and only full-length of THE EVERDAWN called "Poems - Burn The Past". Tracks like ‘Planet Zero’ or ‘Dreamdemon’ really blow the mind of the listener still longing for this style. ‘Predators From Gaia’ or ‘Arcane Walker’ still show that ORDER TO RUIN is still full of ideas and creativity and that their history still has not come to an end.

Production and mixing again is very well-done for a self-released and self-financed release. The CD version, which is limited to 65 copies only in digipak format, comes up with a cool and well-fitting cover artwork and is already sold-out, but the tracks still can be downloaded from their bandcamp site. Fans of the mentioned style can purchase this release blind and should support the guys. More info at the band's social network pages. Media Praise

"A case of striking while the iron is still hot, Lunar Asylum has plenty to offer the melodic death fan. The fusion of death metal aggression gives it some breathing room among peers, and an added energy source that is capable of giving the band a bigger following. Quality releases in this short a time span doesn’t happen often, so take this one for all its worth." - Dead Rhetoric (Rating 8/10).

They self-release their debut album, "Fallen Empire" on January 27, 2017. The cover artwork courtesy of Indonesian artist, Bahrull Marta of Abomination Imagery. "Fallen Empire" is dedicated to all fans of old school melodic death metal and an independent release - strictly limited to only 500 copies worldwide. You can pre-order the album here: https://nyktophobia.bandcamp.com.

Media Praise

"A strong newcomer in the old school worshipping scene that is bound to make a presence as some rightful buzz builds around them." - Dead Rhetoric (Rating: 8/10).

"From the opening riff of “Genesis” to the closing drum beat of “Codex Gigas,” Fallen Empire had the hairs on my neck standing on end, and chills running up my spine. The juxtaposition of the cold, frostbitten production with the warm melodies and riff work scattered throughout Fallen Empire gives the record an interesting and wholly enjoyable sound." - Metalwani (Rating: 9.5/10).

Ephemerald - I Bear Fire (OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO)

Foto de Ephemerald.

EPHEMERALD was formed in 2016 by Joni Snoro (ex-Frosttide), Lauri Myllylä (ex-Frosttide), Vesa Salovaara (Vorna) and Juho Suomi (Apocryfal & Prayed and Betrayed) in order to create epic yet furious and straightforward metal music coming straight from the hearts of its creators.

The members have years of experience in the music business and have been touring and working amongst the finest. Now, with joined forces and multiple new collaborators, the band is soon ready to take the world by storm – this is a journey you don’t want to miss!

Their music can be described as straightforward, fast-paced, epic and melodic metal music accompanied by huge orchestrations and both clean and harsh vocals.

The band first started as Joni Snoro’s side project alongside his main band Frosttide. By July 2016 Joni had a few compositions in his pockets and he decided to ask Vesa Salovaara, the vocalist of Vorna, if he would be interested in doing vocals on them. The two of them had met and become friends during the collective gigs of Frosttide and Vorna over the years and Vesa said yes to the proposition without hesitation. Juho Suomi – a close friend of Joni and Lauri as well as an established drummer – had also offered his help with the drum recordings if necessary.

The situation changed quite radically in October 2016 when Joni and Lauri Myllylä (the ex-bassist of Frosttide) ended up leaving Frosttide due to insolvable personal differences within the band. As a result, Lauri joined the project as a bass player. Thus, a side project had suddenly become an ambitious, full-grown and fully functioning band, which was soon to be named EPHEMERALD.

Even though the band itself is new and fresh, the members have years of experience in the music business and have been touring and working amongst the finest. With joined forces and multiple new collaborators, the band was able to proceed very fast and entered SHED Studios (owned by their friend Juhamatti Kauppinen of Enthrone the Unborn etc.) as soon as December 2016 to record their first single – “I Bear Fire”

Ephemerald's debut single "I Bear Fire" was released February 10, 2017 via ROCKSHOTS Music! The single gives you the first impression of what this band is about – epic yet furious and straightforward metal music coming straight from the hearts of its creators!

Sit back, turn up the volume, have a listen and spread the word all over the world!

Thread of Omen - Vindicta (Full-Length Album - 2017) - Bandcamp Stream

BIOGRAPHY
Thread of Omen was formed in 2013 by founding members Calla Hamman, Jean Hamman, and Stian Etsebeth. Midway through 2014, after Steyn Lotter and Victor van den Heever joined and started playing shows locally. Most recently Matthew Cox joined the band to replace Jean Hamman on bass.

Thread of Omen began as 3 friends playing covers together and the idea of becoming a serious band was not always taken so seriously. After the current drummer joined the band, and many new songs were written, the band began to evolve into something with much more potential. This led to the joining of the current vocalist who added a new dimension to the music. After finalising and structuring the set lists the band decided to begin gigging on the Cape Town circuit. Thread of Omen was soon ready to enter the studio to start recording. The band's debut album titled 'Palace of the Fathers' was released  June 2, 2015.

Their debut album, Palace of the Fathers concept album that binds the metaphorical implications of living in a society where there is a small amount of very powerful and rich oppressors who set the rules and create the mechanistic system of worshiping materialism.Greek mythological figures are used to create our own story where a group of rogue warriors attempt to over throw the power enforced on them. The structure is melodic but focuses on technicality and classical, with a slight progressive influence to create an atmosphere of anarchy. Thread of Omen 'Palace of the fathers' promises to give you a unique and raw experience within the realm of fantasy.

Thread of Omen plays melodic death metal drawing inspiration from classic death metal acts and modern bands alike. Fast-paced music with a strong focus on melody, as well as heaviness which ultimately leads to a unique sound. Their songs are connected through stories and concepts which define and refine their music.

The band Thread Of Omen have been making some noise about releasing their second full length album almost immediately following the 2015 release of their Palace Of The Fathers debut.

No surprises here, they are at it again. The first single, Glory of What from their 2nd full length album received positive reviews and was featured in many popular known African metal blogs and was also included in top tens.

Their second single ‘Die Luminis’ is Latin for ‘day of the light’ (bet you all knew that huh?) Recorded with Neil Bezuidenhout and Stephen du Plessis from Moment of clarity.

Thread Of Omen delivered it’s follow-up full length with Vindicta, officially launched on hard copy on Friday 17 February, and then digitally on Saturday 18th.

In a previous statement, frontman Victor told to Metal4Africa a little about what could be expected from the current release:

“In a nutshell, we want to bring a more positive message regarding existential and philosophical codes of moral ethos, along with inspirational messages of individualism and revolt against the degrading establishments of control. Album number two would be best described as ‘the next step in evolution’ for Thread of Omen.” ~ Victor van den Heever (vocals, Thread Of Omen)

The band is scheduled to tour to Eastern Europe in August this year, focused largely on the Wrath Inc stronghold of Romania with a key appearance at Rockstadt Extreme Fest alongside some of our favourite and most inspirational acts Opeth, Carcass, Napalm Death, Nile, Alestorm, Annihilator and many more! Last year, the festical saw fellow Cape Town metal band Mind Assault make a similar appearance.

Marianas Rest - Horror Vacui (Full-Length Album - 2016) - Bandcamp Stream

The dark shores of Baltic Sea are home to gloomy melancholy and a place where many sad stories have come to an inevitable end. Still, in rare occasions new life emerges from the sea.

Finnish coastal town of Kotka is the birth place of Marianas Rest, a band whose metal is forged in crushing pressure of the deep. Formed in 2013, the band dredges bottom mud and feeds on Scandinavian distress.

History of the band is brief, but the members have gathered experience in various recording groups. Marianas Rest released it’s first full length album via Sliptrick Records 21.10.2016 titled Horror Vacui.

Their music comes heavy and without a hurry. Hints of doom metal can be traced in Marianas Rests music as well as black metal influences. The whole package is crusted with melancholic melodies. With Marianas Rest, it’s all about the mood. Marianas Rest’s line up is Jaakko Mäntymaa (vocals), Nico Mänttäri (guitars), Harri Sunila (guitars), Nico Heininen (drums), Harri Vainio (bass) and Aapo Koivisto (keyboard).

Horror Vacui features eight tracks of hopelessness, nihilism and existential pondering. Horror Vacui (freely translated ”nature abhors a vacuum”) asks, does mankind ever really learn or truly evolve? Are we just repeating our past mistakes on our way to oblivion? The anxieties that come with modern western lifestyle are incarnated in the story of Roger McMillan: A lonely astronaut in space, who has to watch our planet come to an end. The story comes to life with fragments of a longer audio drama called The Final Breaths of Astronaut Roger McMillan on the US Glory. The story was written and acted by Jaxon Combs.

Horror Vacui was recorded, mixed and produced by Teemu Aalto, whose previous works include such great Finnish metal acts as Insomnium and Omnium Gatherum. You actually can hear the voice of Insomniums Niilo Sevänen in the track Nadir. The whole thing was recorded and mixed in Studio Korkeakoski and Studio Rantakatu, both located in Kotka, Finland. The album was mastered by Svante Forsbäck in Chartmakers.

Although the songs are heavy, dark and slow, the refined production gives a sort of organic and airy feel to the album. There are moments of calm amidst the storm. The album received many good reviews and the band went supporrting Dark Tranquility in Russia on the Atoma Tour later January, 2017.

Media Reviews

"The uniqueness of the sound makes Marianas Rest hard to compare to any other band. Although it is possible to tell some sources of inspiration, the album as such is original and has its own style. It’s a very compact project and even though it is a debut album, it sounds mature. It isn’t a musical baby, but a grownup personality which stands in front of the listener. Marianas Rest skipped their own puberty and therefore we can only wait which way they will develop. And will they develop even further? Will they remain where they are? Will they change? " - Milada Střítezská.

"For the small group of you who don't understand anything, there are colorful rating bars at the bottom." - Obscuro.cz (Ratings: 9.5/10).

"There’s always a band to find that’s just slightly below the radar that is ready to bubble up to the surface. Finland’s Marianas Rest is the latest example of this, proving to be a force to be reckoned with on their debut album, Horror Vacui. Featuring Omnium Gatherum keyboardist Aapo Koivisto, this is melodic doom/death metal that appears to be more than you expect as you listen along." - deadrhetoric.com (Ratings: 8/10).

"While you're listening to the piece, try to imagine stars and galaxies being influenced in the leads and you'll see where I'm coming from – it just sounds like a band playing on top of an asteroid, looking at the remains of their former planet." - The Grim Tower (Ratings: 8/10).

"The contrast between the booming bass piston in the engine room and the shimmering, shining, highly addictive melody that wafts over the top of the song like an aurora borealis is wonderful." - NO CLEAN SINGING

Necromance Digital Magazine (Ratings: 8/10)

TRUE METAL.IT (Ratings: 80/100)

"This is an excellent debut from a band who could easily go on to much bigger things." - The Sound Not The Word

"The mournful melodies Marianas Rest supplies, are extremely good, and leaves me perplexed and speechless. The only thing that surpasses the melodies is the overall mood. It puts me in a hypnotic state that feels as physically as a heavy vacuum or as a bath in pleasantly temperated cement." - Gorger Metal

Hiki - Closer (Full-Length Album - 2017) - Bandcamp Stream

Foto de Hiki.

Hiki (from 光, 光る - 'light, shining') is an shoegaze/dream pop project with a mellow ambience. Created suddenly on May 23, 2014, by B.M. - all instruments & vocals (Blurry Lights, Skyforest, A Light in the Dark, Traceline) as a result of experiments with the sounds. It was just one song 'Every Day is the Same' and it was decided to expand it in a separate full project. First release was kinda sad, but now Hiki has quite positive sound with a lot of nostalgic feelings.

Closer is the 6th album. Written and recorded during 2016 and early 2017. This album is a bit 'heavier' than the previous albums - almost all tracks have distorted guitars, there are almost no acoustic songs and a couple of blackgaze elements are present. Also, this time the artwork of the album is an original drawing made specifically for this album!

Closer was released in February 6, 2017. Featuring 6 songs + remix of one of the songs. Albums guests - Arina Fox providing additional vocals on three songs and Nyoko, making a remix for this album. There will be one song in russian language with lyrics by Arina Fox. The album artwork is an original artwork drawn specifically for this album by a very talented artist called mB0sco. Total time is about 23 minutes. There will be CDR and tape like Stargaze. Free download at http://hikimusic.bandcamp.com.

Hyperomm - From Nothing to Eternity (Full-Length Album - 2017) - Bandcamp Stream

Hyperomm is a one man Melodic Death Metal band formed in 2016, by Anton Trubin that was born in 1986 in a small settlement near city of Barnaul, Siberia. He was a diligent kid, never had problems at school, and even the fact he got addicted to heavy metal music and guitar didn’t turn me into crazy wild child. Honestly, he dosen’t even remember, how old he was, when it happened to join his first band as a guitar player. Millions and millions goes a similar way.  Inspiration came from popular heavy metal and punk rock bands. But then they kicked him out without any reason.

Since it war really long long time ago, maybe 1998, he still remember that insult.  Right after shit happened, he took one acoustic guitar (he didn’t have any electric for that time) and composed his first track. Gladly, world already had “Guitar Pro”, so he wrote all the parts and arrangement. After it was done, he started to look for a musicians and people who like similar music and stuff,.  He dosen’t know what pushed him to compose, maybe that insult from the band, or irresistible pursuit of being a fucking rock star =)

So he got the musicians, and u know who they were? Yep. All that guys dropped me out before. Despite they think that they took him back, nope – don’t give a fuck. He picked them on one by one. Anton first showed that guitar pro song to Artem Ustiantsev (Tom) that is a friend of him and excellent guitar player, and he said “That’s really really awesome, buddy. Sounds like Kalmah”.

And after that he started to create melodies one by one. Not all of them were nice, not at all, but some nice music happened. From time to time, by the way, some of that melodies he still uses in Hyperomm tracks.

So, Tom and Anton were the perfect creative team, and they called that Soundstorm. It’s absolutely wrong trying to tell Hyperomm story without Soundstorm, cuz if there were no Soundstorm, Hyperomm would never would have come to the light.

They’ve been inspired by Children Of Bodom, Sonata Arctica, Kalmah, Secret Sphere, In Flames, playing power metal and mixing that with finnish melodic death, and that was AWESOME. They really managed that stuff as a musicians, they played live “Kissing the shadows” by CoB, Full Moon by Sonata Arctica and so on.

Soundstorm Were:
Alex Savinykh – Clean vocals
Anton Trubin  - Harsh Vocals and Guitar
Artem Ustiantsev – Guitar
Anatoly Zhdanov – Drums
Roma Vtorov – Bass
Anna Pavlyuk – Keyboards

Since they’ve created a lot of music for Soundstom (not only Anton, but most part were him's for sure), but they didn’t recorded much. Especially during 2005-2008.

There was another time, when everyone left, but Anatoly and Anton tried to change the style, and that was second life of the band, They’ve been influenced by lots of stuff starting The Mars Volta and Incubus and finishing by the bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan and Between the Buried and Me. And here came another very important man – Kostya Korotaev. He really pushed Anton musical borders wider, made him see how interesting one can play riffs and so on.

What do you need to play music? You need musical instruments, you have to do some recordings, well, you need MONEY. So, Anton had to find a job. He was lucky, and he’ve got position of sound engineer on FM radio station. He really liked that, cuz that let him keep in touch with the music itself. 4 years have passed, and maybe he still had that job if not for salary. Absolutely uncompetitive, so he found another thing that made me interested: motion design and graphics…!

He tried to keep Soundstorm, but career took over. He moved to Moscow, and RIP Soundstorm (2003-2013). So, yes, he still feel remorse about that band, he's the only person who have been there from its birth till its death. Despite it was unknown out of Barnaul, but it’s very personal.

So, Hyperomm. That’s new level, new stage. This is where fused of Anton creativity: as composer and musician, as designer and sound engineer. And Hyperomm emerged. He just plugged his guitar and started.

During the first track recording, he didn’t even mean to create new project, didn’t think about name and logo, he just started to create and record. He found old “guitar pro stuff”, got very very excited and the only thing came to his mind: “I HAVE TO RECORD THAT”.

Hyperomm actually is his favorite finnish melodic death stuff.  He got once facebook comment regarding his EP: “that’s a cool mix of Children Of Bodom and Lamb Of God!” Cool, right? He liked that comparison also.

And there was a reason he mentioned a lot of people in that story. Alex Savinykh (soundstorm vocals) gave him the name Hyperomm itself. And the’re gonna records some new stuff with Artem again, so he really hope to hear his guitar soon. Anatoly and Roma consult him with the drums. And of course, Kostya also gives him advices. One more name needs to be here – Max Kokarev, great musician and sound engineer. Anton always ask for his point of view. So, Hyperomm is not so one man band, you see.

Dissona - Paleopneumatic (Full-Length Album - 2016) - Bandcamp Stream

Dissona is a progressive metal band from the South Suburbs of Chicago. They have spent much of their time carefully carving out their desired sound by writing songs that embody various styles and emotions. They are known for their diverse sound, energetic stage performance, and emotionally powerful lyrical content based on a wide variety of themes including emotion, sentience, humanity, nature, life, sexuality, corruption, etc.

Dissona's follow up to their critically-acclaimed 2012 release, Paleopneumatic is the culmination of years of agonizing, hard work and consequently their most fully realized production to date. With Paleopneumatic, however, Dissona seem to “get it.” Yet another foray into the neurotic abyss known as self-production, guitarist Matt Motto labored endlessly searching for that fabled “perfect mix.” Though it does not necessarily exist by any stretch of the imagination, the warm, resonant sound produced throughout Paleopneumatic certainly complements the interesting and dynamic journey through each track.

Paleopneumatic is highly engrossing from beginning to end, almost as if it’s paralleling life itself, from the chaotic entrance, the peaks and valleys that comprise the entirety of human existence, and the somber, slow extinguishment as we are relieved of our breath. The way these four members work together to craft such an interesting album that can be analyzed from different perspectives should be enough to engage longtime progressive fans or intrigue newcomers to the style. While Sun Ends - Terminus (Full-Length Album - 2016) - Bandcamp Stream

While Sun Ends, consisting of Carlo Leone, Enrico Brugali, and Massimo Tedeschi started in 2008. After searching for a singer for six months, Serena Caracchi joined the group creating a new band influenced by death metal and progressive rock making it possible to complete their recording of the record titled “Exile”. "Exile" is described by critics as the beginning of a promising career and had a positive evaluation in the most reviews.

During 2009 and 2010, While Sun Ends elaborated its ideas creating new sounds. Meanwhile, the band began to test their impact by playing in pubs and musical theaters in the Northern part of Italy. The band built successes in Bergamo, Milan, Brescia and Cremona.

In April of 2011 they began recording eight songs that will be part of the new debut album titled “The Emptiness Beyond”. The lyrics speak about the contradictions of the human nature and also tell stories of three different female figures. Through the years, their range of musical styles grew and they were influenced also by modern and post metal, which can be heard in the new cd. “The Emptiness Beyond” is entirely self-produced with the help of some friends involved in other bands including Antti Loponen (Consciousness Removal Project), Rubens "Crono" Bertini (Hungry Like Rakovitz), Matteo Bonera and Jonathan Panada (Sunpocrisy), Giuseppe Falco (Triste Colore Rosa).

Terminus is the second full-length album by While Sun Ends released via WOOAAARGH on August 26, 2016, this release is something of a new dawn for the Italian prog outfit as it’s the first to feature new female vocalist Stefania Torino, along with some other line-up changes. As with their debut, this release has growly death vocals competing with Stefania’s soothing harmonies. While Sun Ends embrace that well executed combination of explosive death metal style charges interlaced with softer passages, a style reminiscent of Swedish giants Katatonia and Opeth with the obvious caveat of the female vocals. While throwing in three Swedish names we make as well make it three, as the broken timechanges and stop-start riffs are also Meshuggah-like in places, although without the savage kick.

Terminus is a journey through knowledge, an act which builds cyclic ties with contacts, experiences and memory. 8 tracks of death metal and progressive rock mixed by Riccardo “Paso” Pasini (Ephel Duath, Handful of Hate, Blindead, Sunpocrisy...) @ Studio73 (Ravenna – Italy) and mastered by Collin Jordan (Voivod, Pelican, Eyehategod, Ministry) @ Boiler Room Studio (Chicago).

While Sun Ends is constantly growing and exploring different sounds, hoping that the public enjoys their style of music that is rich in influence. The conclusion is that you hear today.
