BIOGRAPHY
Selvans was born to celebrate the inner spirit of the Italic lands, through the recreation of the cults and the folklore of the different ethnic groups that have dwelt in Italy from age to age; expressing this concept by means of sound, lyrics and aesthetics. Ancestral Italic melodies meld with atmospheric, sinister and evocative metal tunes to create a hymn to that ancient spirituality.
Selvans was formed following the demise of Draugr, and, through music, lyrics and aesthetics, the band aims to recreate the mysticism and the folklore that the different ethnic inhabitants of Italy throughout the ages left behind them.
The lineup on “Clangores Plenilunio” EP includes Selvans Haruspex on vocals, keyboards and traditional instruments , Sethlans Fulguriator on guitar, and Draugr co-founders Stolas on bass and Jonny on drums, , who was tragically killed in a motor bike accident in June of last year.
This EP marks the last ever appearance of Jonny, who recorded all of the drum tracks and most of the vocals before his death, and in whose honour the EP is being released.
'Lupercalia' is the first Selvans full length album after their debut mini-cd 'Clangores Plenilunio'. The debut full-length album from Selvans, was released on Avantgarde Music in October. Titled “Lupercalia”, the album is composed of six tracks, each lasting an average of ten minutes.
Six tracks, over 60 minutes of music again marked by their unique way to mix keyboard-led symphonic black metal with (many) elements of traditional Italian folk but keeping the overall sound very angry, furious and not happy at all.
“Lupercalia” was recorded at the Faunalia Studios and in Patrizio Tamborriello’s Soluzioni Audio. The lineup on the album comprises Selvans Haruspex on keyboards, traditional instruments, vocals and programming, and Sethlans Fulguriator on guitars and bass. The album is available both as a CD in A5 format and digitally.
After spending most of 2015 on the road promoting the newly-formed band and the mini cd, Selvans is now ready to face up the public with a fundamental release, that is their debut full length album.
On this album we witness Selvans orchestrations dwelling in 8-to-17 minutes long opuses with no moments of boredom or climax failures: You just can't help being raptured by the wolves of Italy.
The new album continues SELVANS’ idea of combining music, lyrics and aesthetics in such a way as to recreate the folklore of Italy’s ancient peoples. As a consequence, the visuals, both in terms of album artwork and live sets, is an important aspect for the band. For “Lupercalia” SELVANS has once again turned to Diletta of E.B.A. Art, whose first collaboration occurred on the band’s five-track EP “Clangores Plenilunio”, which was released on Avantgarde Music in February of this year. Diletta’s artwork brings to life the designs of founder and frontman Selvans Haruspex in a much lauded way.
