It all started in late 2010: ESPERA XIII was created by Renan Brito as a One Man Band and side project. The first sound drafts appeared at the end of that year and then become "escandalo Demo 2011", a raw demo recording which had Niko T. as a drummer.
In 2012, it was recorded the second demo entitled Thy Great Expedition: with better sound and some remixing sessions even in 2013. The project, after the second self-released and yet as One Man Band, began to aspire to live performances. Then, in 2013, some friends were called to play this brutal Death / Black with atmospheric influences and some tests were performed.
The year 2013 was completely filled with hard work: There were intense sessions of pre-production and recording of the upcoming album, set for release in 2015. The more the project worked on new songs plus was the will of playing live and so It happened: In April 2014 the team has been set and the band was consolidated.
On April 22, 2014, launches web lyric video for their single The Great Dark Spot, and over the following months comes in many different houses of Sao Paulo to promote the release. From April to October 2014 the band creates the Great Dark Spot The Tour, presenting and organizing events in Paulista underground and having the opportunity to tap into best-known houses like Manifesto and Sound Space.
The Alliance EP arrives on October 31, 2014, released via web through Bandcamp and Youtube. With the tracklist of 3 songs 'Alliance, Leviathan and End', the EP gave the fans more for an idea of how will be the debut album which was arrived in 2015 in physical format.
The release date in Brazil, April 22, was not chosen at random, is also part of this whole universe that the group set out to create, after all this day is celebrated the discovery of Brazil and Earth Day, key terms within the ESPERA XIII’s lyrical content.
"'Unexpected Southern Lights' was produced by guitarist Renan Brito and had the mixing and mastering made in Germany by the renowned producer Andy Classen in his studio Stage One. It was hard work and time consuming, more than two years of production. All limits were put to the test, extreme perfectionism to be able to deliver quality work to the listener.
