Seeing an 18 year old perform and compose every instrument with clarity of thought and intentional songwriting chops beyond his years was impressive enough, but 2016 sees Nick Stanger as exuberant as ever; Yūgen outshines their debut  “Vacant” in every aspect. A gorgeous expedition through luscious soundscapes aided by an oriental tint, Ashbringer present one of the most invigorating, raw, and enjoyable adventures the genre has seen so far this year.

Nick Stanger, the mastermind behind Ashbringer, changed from a one-man-do-it-all on their first album Vacant to a full band for this record. Stanger has expanded the project to a full five piece (with the occasional guest), and with it, the project's sound has expanded and changed. The music is now bigger, heart-on-its-sleeve, bombastic black metal. 

The second album of Minnesota’s Ashbringer is named Yūgen. It was released digitaly on May 22, and then, on June 7 by Avantgarde Music as a beautiful 6 panels digipack with 12 pages booklet, ORDER YOUR COPY HERE! with vinyl coming later via Vendetta and a cassette edition via Broken Limbs Recordings. It’s as striking and memorable as the album’s cover art.

I am impressed by the musical prowess, the ability to project Atmospheric Black Metal onto the unsuspecting listener with the promise of vast open lands lurking somewhere behind yonder mists that are obscuring the view.

The music is both storming and hypnotic, ferocious and beautiful, with a mix of barbaric and clean vocals. And as you’ll soon discover, there’s a high, trilling guitar motif in this enthralling song that’s insanely catchy.

BIOGRAPHY

Adorned in Ash (AiA) is a female fronted Christian Extreme Metal band from Pretoria, South Africa. Their music include thrash, speed and groove metal to more progressive & technical death & black metal.

They are influenced by bands such as Becoming the Archetype, Fearscape, Antestor, Woe of Tyrants, Impending Doom, Synnove, Sympathy, War Of ages, Miseration, Tourniquet, Mortification, Living Sacrifice, Frost like Ashes, A Hill To Die Upon and EXTOL, all being Christian bands within the Metal Genre.

The band started in 2008. The next few years saw the band endure tragedy and the loss of a band member and a myriad of lineup changes while at the same time being able to open for bands like Becoming the Archetype. When original vocalist Marius Visagie left the band in 2011, then guitarist Robyn Ferguson stepped up to take over vocal duties in addition to guitar, making Adorned in  a female-fronted metal band.

Adorned in Ash released their long-awaited debut album “The Dead Walk Among Us” on the 1st of February 2014 to great reviews internationally.

The album consists of 10 original songs recorded at South African guitar legend Nathan Smith’s Open Track Studios,  includes work from all band members since 2010 with Robyn’s vocals updating tracks where needed, was mixed and mastered by Robyn Ferguson and Adorned in Ash. The album art includes photography by Vlademirovka Photography with the original concept by Adorned in Ash.

The band has also performed GORO FEST 2014 in Mozambique and which marked their first international event.

AiA has recently performed across South Africa as part of the “Among Ashes” tour, promoting their album “The Dead Walk Among Us”. These include shows in metal clubs throughout their home province including legendary metal club Zeplins’ “Metal Rights Day”, a three-day outdoor festival, Charity event with South African metal legends Agro.

Past gigs have included many events at Gauteng clubs & outdoor venues, the Rocknights at the South African State Theatre, a three-day outdoor festival, the launch party for the South African Metal Head Association as well as Metal4Africa’s SummerFest, held in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

AiA has also been featured in various online publications including Black Mountain Magazine, Black Apple E-Zine, SA Guitarist Online Magazine, Metalunderground.com, The Metal Resource, Underground Press, Fanbase Magazine and KZK101 online magazine and many more.

Adorned in Ash was the only South African metal band in the top 150 bands chosen for one of the biggest online battle of the bands called the TBFM Factor hosted by TBFM in the UK in 2012 and received international recognition with their single "Human Torch".

Adorned in Ash are continually trending on Reverbnation and peaked at no. 1 in a recent Gauteng Metal chart and at no 4 Nationally (South Africa).

BIOGRAPHY

Poland’s In Twilight’s Embrace have come a long way from humble beginnings in underground community to the state of artistic self-awareness. Formed in 2003 and having actively participated in the birth of an independent metal/hardcore movement, the band managed to build a bridge between the variety of extreme metal genres and the unrelenting passion of hardcore. The debut full-length album, “Buried in Between” (2006), is without a doubt still one of the notable releases which merge those two worlds of musical expression into the single loaded weapon. After its release numerous shows followed allowing the band to present themselves alongside The Black Dahlia Murder, Heaven Shall Burn, The Ocean or Arkangel inter alia.

Fast forward to 2010, In Twilight’s Embrace were ready to make idols fall and temples burn again. The five-piece return reformed, rebuilt and redefined with their sophomore offering titled “Slaves to Martyrdom”. Delivering a total of 11 songs, they bring about the fusion of crushing riffs, guitar hooks and strong melodies enforced by bombastic rhythm intensity. Paying homage to their titanic heroes, among others At the Gates, Amon Amarth and Heaven Shall Burn, these furious youths are at the same time able to delve into somewhat more progressive waters and forge an identity of their own.

Over a year in works, “Slaves to Martyrdom” found the group collaborate at different locations, with different people on the project. Thanks to shared determination and compound effort, the album ended up being what it was meant to be: a strong and thought-provoking final result. The high motivation sparked also the lyrical concept of the album, being a bitter tale about celebrating loss, worshipping tragedies and compromising historical truth on the altar of politics. The twilight has cast its blackened veil again.

The Grim Muse is the name of the third album by Poland’s In Twilight’s Embrace. It was  released on September 15, 2015  by Arachnophobia Records.

The Grim Muse’ contains one of the band’s most introspective material to date. Gone are the days of youthful enthusiasm, replaced by a sense of otherness and cold distance towards the world. At the same time, the album finds In Twilight’s Embrace at the peak of ferocity and restlessness. Driven by bitterness, disillusion and doubt, ‘The Grim Muse’ define work of In Twilight’s Embrace.                        

On May 25, 2016, the band released Trembling (EP), consisting in
three tracks immortalized during "The Grim Muse" sessions, featuring the cover version of "Opowieść zimowa" by Polish dark punk icons Armia. A 14 minutes long maelstrom of soulpiercing Death Metal.

Orbit Culture - (2011 - 2014) [ Full Discography] - Bandcamp Stream

BIOGRAPHY 

In the deep forests of southern Sweden lies the small town of Eksjö where the band Orbit Culture originates from. The idea of the band grew strong within singer & rhythm guitarist Niklas and lead guitarist Maximilian after messing around with some unpolished demos at home. At that time, Maximilian was currently playing with another local band called Abstract Noise, together with Orbit Culture’s fellow drummer Markus Bladh. Maximilian recruited Markus to join his new band, followed by the arrival of Christoffer Olsson on bass guitar. The line-up was now complete.

Shortly after Orbit Culture's inception, the band started to work on their debut EP. The production ended on August 17th, 2013 and Orbit Culture's very first piece of music was released shortly after. All the songs were recorded in what used to be an old power plant in the bands hometown. The EP was mixed and mastered by Niklas himself. Later that year, the band re-released their debut EP, re-mastered with a new bone-crushing artwork.

After some positive feedback and reviews both nationally and internationally the band quickly started working on their first full-length album. Through an intense process of songwriting, recording, mixing and mastering the band finally finished and released their first full-length album called “In Medias Res” on the 23rd of July, 2014. The album concept builds on a war between the race of men and machines. The album is fully packed with epicness and shall leave no one unsatisfied. The concept of the album builds on a war between the race of men and the ancient machines from a world beyond ours.

After a handful of shows promoting the new album and getting their name out there, lead guitarist Maximilian decided to leave the band to pursue other interests.

Ade is an Italian death metal band based in Rome and active since 2007. Their music and lyrics are both influenced by Ancient Roman History, also featuring traditional instruments which give to their technical death metal a strong epic touch. Ade focuses on the past and the origin of the customs of their country, inspired by the ancient Greek music mainly used by Romans in war situations, and fusing it with modern death metal with lyrics written in English and Latin.

Released in 2014 by Art of Propaganda, Harakiri for the Sky's Aokigahara reaped widespread critical acclaim for its startling synthesis of skyscraping post-rock textures and emotive black metal fury. Breathtaking and torturous in equal measures, the highwater mark that Aokigahara set has somehow been eclipsed by III: Trauma. Immediately, the album kicks off with an 11-minute epic titled "Calling the Rain," and indeed do Harakiri for the Sky summon forces both natural and supernatural. As the record winds through seven more equally scintillating epics, III: Trauma swells and swirls, crests and crushes, effortlessly dancing between genres with nary an ounce of self-consciousness. Drops Of Heart was formed in summer 2008 by young musicians without any sighificant experience of this sphere. After some changes of members, DoH was recorded a firts EP "Правда Закрытых Глаз" ("Truth Of Closed Eyes"). Skills grew, but frequent changes of members was has negatively affect on band's condition. In 2010 Drops Of Heart ceased to exist. But after few years of silence, vocalist made a new birth of band, with new men and new music. New, "updated and improved",

DoH released their first full-length album "Новая Надежда" ("New Hope") in 2014.

On  June 5, 2016 the band released their Maxi Single Время и пульс (Time and pulse) following this statement:

"Dear friends, we return to you after one and half year of silence, and we proudly want to present our new creation! Release of this maxi-single is extremely important for us, because it's a turning point for bigger things in future." - commented the band.

Drops Of Heart is symbiosis of beautiful melodies, punchy guitar riffs and extremely powerful harsh vocal.

SCUORN was born to worship the cult of Parthenope by revealing the most ancient legends and history of the mysterious Neapolitan lands, known over the centuries for their hellenic and roman origins and for being fervent cradle of the Italian culture.

The epic black metal atmospheres, strongly influenced by the world famous “canzone napoletana”, and the sound of traditional folk instruments melt with majestic orchestrals and evocative lyrics in native language, express the concept of the band at its best.

Founded in Naples (Italy) in 2008 by Giulian (Vocals, All Instruments & Orchestral Arrangements), SCOURN (which means "shame" in Neapolitan language) will soon release the debut album “PARTHENOPE”, recorded, mixed and mastered at 16th Cellar Studio by Stefano “Saul” Morabito (Fleshgod Apocalypse, Hour Of Penance, Theatres des Vampires).

Very special guest on the album is the “maestro” Riccardo Studer from Italian extreme epic metal pioneers STORMLORD, who shaped an impressive orchestra who reminds of bands such as DIMMU BORGIR and SEPTICFLESH for epicness and greatness.

The concept album is focused on the most ancient greek-roman origins of Naples, and each song is related to a specific legend from those times, such as the 79 a.d. volcano Vesuvio’s eruption who destroyed Pompeii and many others.

On May 24, 2016 Parthenopean Epic Black Metallers SCUORN stream the track “Fra Ciel’ e Terr’” from the upcoming debut album “PARTHENOPE”. Set to be released soon.

Orbit Culture - Rasen (Full-Length Album - 2016) - Bandcamp Stream

BIOGRAPHY 

In the deep forests of southern Sweden lies the small town of Eksjö where the band Orbit Culture originates from. The idea of the band grew strong within singer & rhythm guitarist Niklas and lead guitarist Maximilian after messing around with some unpolished demos at home. At that time, Maximilian was currently playing with another local band called Abstract Noise, together with Orbit Culture’s fellow drummer Markus Bladh. Maximilian recruited Markus to join his new band, followed by the arrival of Christoffer Olsson on bass guitar. The line-up was now complete.

Shortly after Orbit Culture's inception, the band started to work on their debut EP. The production ended on August 17th, 2013 and Orbit Culture's very first piece of music was released shortly after. All the songs were recorded in what used to be an old power plant in the bands hometown. The EP was mixed and mastered by Niklas himself. Later that year, the band re-released their debut EP, re-mastered with a new bone-crushing artwork.

After some positive feedback and reviews both nationally and internationally the band quickly started working on their first full-length album. Through an intense process of songwriting, recording, mixing and mastering the band finally finished and released their first full-length album called “In Medias Res” on the 23rd of July, 2014. The album concept builds on a war between the race of men and machines. The album is fully packed with epicness and shall leave no one unsatisfied.

After a handful of shows promoting the new album and getting their name out there, lead guitarist Maximilian decided to leave the band to pursue other interests. Even though a close friend and important musician in the band had left, the band felt that the new album was not enough and the hunt for something authentic and real began. After almost two and half years of writing and recording new and more powerful songs, they finished the album  “Rasen”.

"Rasen" is Orbit Culture's latest release. A heavy packed metal record which will leave no one unsatisfied. The concept of the album builds on the issues of living with mental issues such as depression and OCD. With this album, we wanted to let you know that you're not alone". - Commented the band.

Their new album Rasen has 10 heavy in your face your tracks full of well executed growls and solid riffs. Overall this entire album is a work of art and the advancement of the band is auspicious.

Perhaps Orbit Culture’s strongest feature is their ability to dwell in very populated waters and come out sounding energized and intriguing. With no shortage of passion and energy, and Rasen takes the best elements of thrash, groove, and melody and puts them together into a sleek melodic death metal package. An easy thumbs up for those who can’t get enough of this stuff.

BIOGRAPHY

Nothing Lies Beyond is a melodic death metal band from Tel Aviv, Israel. The band started in late 2011, by Guy Elberg and Ariel Lior, working on their music for two years in the rehearsal studio , during that time, the line-up of changed a few times due to personal reasons. In December 2012 , after working with a local producer – Eli Zulta , the band self- released their first promo single “Fading Behind False Eyes”. The band performed their debut show in 2013 with Israeli extreme metal Arallu and the dark metal band Angry Buddha.

Early 2014 Nothing Lies Beyond were opening act in a festival that included emerging metal bands from Israel Salem , Arallu , Desert. Highlights that year were supports with the massive Elvenking, Dark Tranquillity and Children Of Bodom.

In June 2014 , the band decided to record their first Album in “AG Studio” in Tel Aviv. During the production stage, Nothing Lies Beyond changed the line up of the band to their current and final line up. 

Melodic death metal outfit Nothing Lies Beyond today July 22, 2016 release their debut full length album Fragile Reality. 

Drummer Ariel Lior comments, “We are very excited to finally release our debut album! We’ve been working on this for a long time, writing and poring over every detail to make an album that we can all be proud of and going by the feedback it seems we’ve done ourselves justice. We want to send our thanks to all of the people who supported us during the writing and production process, we couldn’t make it without you. With a special thanks to our amazing producers Alex and Vitally Zvulun for all their help and advice, and also to our former guitar players and close friends – Guy Elberg and Elad Pakado. So, we hope everone will enjoy hearing the album as much as we enjoyed making it.”

The band have been holed up in AG studio recently and have come to the surface with a blistering melo-death album entitled Fragile Reality. Nine tracks of hook laden melodic death metal that would make you swear you were listening to something from Gothenburg from the early nineties. Except with a modern finesse. With songs like ‘Never Back Down’ and ‘We Are The Revolution’ this is a statement of intent from the young quintet.

The artwork  was completed by Luciferium Designs. Fragile Reality was released on 22nd July 2016 independently. The album was produced, recorded and mixed at AG studio (TLV, Israel), by Alex and Vitally Zvulun.

Fin'amor - Forbidding Mourning (Full-Length Album - 2015) - Bandcamp Stream

The name Fin'amor is derived from a 12th century literary theme focused on the existence and prevalence of "pure" or "true" love. Though inaccurately believed to translate to "End of Love", Fin'amor more ironically reads " Love until the End" Too often on earth and in music is the true value of existence lost because of our unwillingness to deviate from complacency. In an attempt to wrought beauty out of sorrow and invoke love in the place of hate.

Fin'amor was conceived in the Summer and formed in the Fall of 2008 by Julian, Nodar, Aleksey, and Benjamin. In the Winter of the following year George and Raphael joined the lineup. 

Shortly after we began performing live, we introduced a new drummer, Winston. After countless shows and some remedial attention, the band hit a breaking point and Winston, Aleksey, and Benjamin parted ways with Fin‘amor. Though the band seemed hopelessly wounded, Julian, Nodar, and Raphael tarried on, and with the grace of fate, Fin'amor was not yet extinguished. Soon after Slava joined on bass, Nodar took over keys, and Eugene joined on drums. With the musicians in place, Benjamin returned on Vocals.

With Julian and Raphael on guitars, Slava on Bass, Eugene on drums, Nodar on keyboards, and Benjamin on Vocals; Fin'amor exists to resurrect the beauty of pleasure and pain, amidst the stale desolation of apathy.

The band himself describes his music as an ambitious effort to manifest a sound inspired by the sorrow and down-tempo of doom, the atmosphere and orchestration of goth, the versatility of progressive, and the strength and resolution of death.

The band is setted to venture from the New York scene in the summer of 2015, beginning with the release of their debut full-length album. The album “Forbidding Mourning” explores themes of hope, despite a despairing existence, the paradoxical nature of love, and the desolation of apathy.
