Clouds - Durere (Full-Length Album - 2020) - Bandcamp Stream

Like mercury, like liquid sands, like a turbulent sea, one could characterize the existence of the doom formation Clouds. On purpose I don't use the word band because line-up is spilling, disappearing, emerging and changing. Like liquid sands, like mercury. Only one remains. Wonderful music that beats the rhythm of the exposed heart on the palm of your hand. The album "Durere" presents again stories of deep sadness, knowledge of own mortality and fragility hidden deep within ourselves.

In a sense, Clouds are not really a musical group, Clouds are clouds of a single sky, represented by a single character. Daniel Neagoe is an absolutely unique artist in the doom metal field, a personality who is actually invisible to those who have not been initiated. A giant, a giant in the field of music, a person with perfect musical feeling, imagination, everything that I tend to admit openly. Daniel is a very undeground musician with an unknown face. Of course, it is not an international star of a large format. He only knows him whom Neagoe conquered, domesticated, handcuffed and enslaved with his work.

Daniel Neagoe is of course known only to a very narrow audience, his name is not only associated with the creation of Clouds, but also Aeonian Sorrow, Shape of Despair, Eye of Solitude, Pantheist, God Eat God, Colossus… in which he appeared, Daniel is connected with the history of the gloomy, melancholic metal so much that one wall of a funeral chapel, made up of funeral tones, wouldn't have stood at all if the charismatic Romanian hadn't been born. The above-average composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist does not know what peace is and goes from project to project. It flashes somewhere, stays longer somewhere, but it is always recognizable.

Clouds was born as a very vague project in 2013 and since then five long-playing albums have been released under their logo. All albums were created in a unifying funeral style with great melodic themes, graded by fantastic instrumentation. The band's line up changes in each change release . Clouds were sung by Faroese bard Jon Aldara, Finnish vocalist Mikko Kotamäki, Pim Blankenstein from Official Triste, Natalie Koskinen or iconic Gogo Melone. Equally variable were the collaborating instrumentalists.

The line-up for 2020 is again interesting and atypical. In addition to Daniel Neagoe, he includes Romanian bassist Alex Costin, drums are played by another Romanian Luca Breaz, violin is held by fragile Irina Movileanu, only a twenty-two-year-old Romanian musician, Mihai Mike Dinuta know mainly lovers of Danish Saturnus.

As can be seen, this time Neagoe has turned into a country of his own origin, the line-up is mostly Romanian, and must be added, great. Seven songs of the album “Durere” represent the peak of doom art. Especially thanks to masterful instrumentation.

A funeral doom can be a damn boring thing if its creators lack imagination. Or it can be so beautiful that it hurts deep in the chest. Such is the album "Durere". Sophistically beautiful, fragile, similar to a fleeting touch of a blade that almost painlessly opens deep wounds and lets a person bleed.

Lyrics are again lyrical and profound, even though the lyrics are classic, not deviating too much from the genre. They depict mental torment, anxiety, sadness, grief, solitude.

The Clouds style combines a strong, distinctive harsh vocal with pointed melodic passages that rise like waves high and far. Occasionally, the song intersects with recitatives, tinged with very subtle tones. This combination of caustic, harsh, dense grunts with almost intangible touches of tenderness makes Neagoe perfectly masterful. It can be sentimental, but it will never slip into kitsch, which is very difficult when using similar procedures. The album retains a very recognizable style in all respects, but is stronger than the previous one, I can't help it, "Durere" is more powerful. Thundering moments in which a heavy, dominant growl catches our brains and tears our skin back are really strong. Neagoe is at the pinnacle of creation and singing techniques.

In fact, “Durere” acts like classical music, as a modern opera. The opera resembles those vast areas of symphonic thunder, beautiful melodies and also the main character, the singer who is the heroic bass of today. "Durere" is a classic feat, a perfectly balanced, unified storyline, going from birth to extinction. The album is so riveting that it works conceptually, one song is inseparable from the other. It is a compact, coherent flow of black water that spurts toward the starless sky. In the field of doom metal, “Durere” is an unforgettable peak experience.

Clouds - Dor (Full-Length Album 2CD- 2018) - Bandcamp Stream

Clouds, an international doom project, the band announced their third full-length album, Dor, recently. The band's highly anticipated third album, a collection of beautiful songs for our loved ones, departed or still with us.

"Dor" reflects on the emotive chord of humanity and lingers around the crushing feeling of missing someone.

After two successful full length and one EP, the Clouds music evolves slightly towards the more melodic side of doom metal, more emotional and susceptible to melancholy.

Daniel Neagoe assembles, once again, a memorable line up of guest musicians with special attention to vocalist, with Ana Carolina (Mourning Sun), Gogo Melone (Aeonian Sorrow), Mihu Ilie from Abigail and Mikko Kotamäki from Finnish legends Swallow The Sun showing their undeniable talent on this recording.

Recorded as a two volumes album, "Dor" includes guest vocals from artists such as Gogo Melone (Aeonian Sorrow), Pim Blankenstein (Officium Triste), Sylvaine, Mihu (Abigail), Kayla Dixon (Witch Mountain) and the vocal contest winner Caleb Bergen (Sleepwalkers).

The members of Clouds have a combined resumé that remains virtually unmatched in doom metal. Amongst the members of the atmospheric doom band are contributions and efforts in some of the genre's biggest and productive names over the last 25 years. Names like Pantheist, Shape of Despair, Barren Earth, and Eye of Solitude are just a handful of examples. However, their collective work in Clouds remains its own wonderfully unique entity.

Clouds Announces New Album + New Song Released

Clouds, an international doom project, the band announced their third full-length album, Dor, recently. The new record follows the 2017 Destin EP and their latest single, "Do You See Me" from earlier this year. To celebrate the announcement of their new album, Clouds gave Funeral Doom Friday a brand new music video for the self-titled track from Dor.

The video features Pantheist mastermind, Kostas Panagioutou, as the video's main character. The video was directed by vocalist and drummer, Daniel Neagoe. In the video, Kostas appears stricken with grief and anguish as he tries to get rid of a photo of a woman. He attempts to burn and bury the photo; he tries to run, but the photo (or perhaps the memory of her in the form of a photo) continues to reappear. It ultimately becomes too much for the main character as he breaks down in the middle of the woods.

Check out the video and song below! Be sure to also pre-order "Dor" from Bandcamp.

 Released August 10, 2018

Clouds - Destin (EP - 2017) - Bandcamp Stream

Clouds - Destin
Clouds, an international doom project, just announced a new EP, and you can read all about it below. To sum it up, it will be titled Destin and feature artwork by Arthur Kornovics and four new songs. The cover has been revealed and can be seen as well.

2016 saw the band release their second full-length album, Departe. Prior to that, a 2014 debut called Doilu. Now this year, less than six months removed from Departe, Clouds delivers a brand new EP named Destin.

The band explained: "Dear friends, it is with much pleasure we present to you with Destin. This will be our new EP and its artwork has Arthur Kornovics's distinct signature as usual. There will be two versions of this release, CD and vinyl.

"The CD version will contain four new songs, Errata, the single which by now hasn't been included on any physical material and two acoustic versions of older songs: Even If I Fall and You Went So Silent. The vinyl version will contain just the four new songs as a collector's edition.

"There will also be a special package for this release limited to only 50 pieces, and we will come back with more details regarding it, however, what we can say by now is that this is going to be very much on your liking and will contain a lot of items. Please stay tuned until Monday next week, when we will come back with our next guest appearance on the EP as well as more news about the EP itself."

On June 30th, 2017 Clouds released the first single Fields Of Nothingness feat Mikko Kotamäki (Mikko from Swallow the Sun vocalist).

Their new EP "Destin", the EP was released on 1st of August 2017 (Digitaly) and on 1st of September 2017 (Physicaly) in Fifty limited edition 100% handmade, hand numbered (both cd and packaging) digipacks. The digipacks will have between 3 to 5 panels (CD in the middle, 2 folds sideways and 2 folds up and down). You can Pre-Order and kow more about the package features here: https://www.thevinyldivision.com/product-page/clouds-destin-wooden-box.

Drummer and vocalist, Daniel Neagoe, spoke on the new EP; stating: "Destin is our proudest of works so far. It is both relentless and oppressive and with the help of our distinguished guests, the music receives an individual value and personal touch. It is, in fact, the natural continuation of both Doliu and Departe and the bridge to our next chapter." Guitarist and bassist, Déhá, also spoke. He followed Neagoe's sentiments adding: "Destin is definitely more than an EP, and not only with length. It brings tragedy to a new standard in our music and shows that this same tragedy can be brought with a simple acoustic song and a voice, as well as with full force and amazing guest vocalists. I do believe this is our most emotional release so far and I can't it say better than Daniel; it's a bridge for our next works."

Media Praise

"Overall, “Destin” is one hell of a release that any fan of Atmospheric Doom Metal should have in their collection. This nearly flawless release will certainly stand the test of time and will maintain Clouds status as one of the genre’s best until their next efforts. Released in multiple super limited-edition collector’s versions (a limited-edition box and digipack) this is one of the holy grail-like articles for any collector." - InfernalMasquerade.com (Rating: 99/100).

"Clouds invited four guest-vocalists to help them create one of the best Doom Metal records of the year. To complete the hour-long epos they included some re-interpretations of earlier work, which will surely convince both their loyal support and new fans." - Grimmgent.com (Rating: 9.4/10).

Clouds - (2014 - 2015) [ Full Discography] - Bandcamp Stream

BIOGRAPHY
Clouds is a veritable supergroup containing members of some of the most prolific Doom bands around. Formed by Daniel Neagoe (Eye Of Solitude, Deos, Colosus) in 2013, he states, "The music is dedicated to departed ones, loved ones who now, are no longer amongst us." Joined by Jarno Salomaa (Shape Of Despair), Déhà (Imber Luminis, Slow), Kostas Panagiotou (Pantheist, Wijlen Wij), Pim Blankenstein (Officium Triste, The 11th Hour) and Jón Aldará (Barren Earth, Hamferð), Daniel and crew. CLOUDS orchestrate solemn odes of pain and sorrow dedicated to departed souls. Forged following the passing of someone close and dear, to hear CLOUDS is to lose yourself in a grievous journey through paths of desolation, anguish and despair.

Said the band in a collective statement: “We are extremely happy to have found a label which shares our passion and ideology. That is something hard to find nowadays. Together with Domestic Genocide we will bring you sorrow.”

Adds the Domestic Genocide collective: “There is a comfort in the bitterness that surrounds the sound, the lyrics, the interpretation and the passion with which the songs have been written. And with the help of Domestic Genocide Records, CLOUDS will be bringing sorrow; the music will at once touch and torture. “

Doliu was released via Domestic Genocide in 2014. Portions of the album’s proceeds was donated to Sponsorachild.org.

This is one epic album. The combination of clean and harsh vocals strikes the perfect balance. The sorrow that weaves through the music is expressed in a flawless a melding of beauty and power. The musicianship is top-notch, from the standard instruments to the very prominent and very welcome keyboards.

It’s this creative awareness that sees this collaboration of able artists transform into something more. Not every one will agree with me, and I really don’t expect them to; it takes a certain type of person to appreciate doom as it is. For most, this will unfortunately be a one time, fleeting listen. It’s a shame for Clouds to have done something special here. It’s not tainted by cliches or high expectations. The album continues in its wave of sheer enjoyment. ‘Doliu’ presents twists and turns captivating its recipients, throwing them down the tumultuous wave of sadness and separation.

The album artwork evokes similar feelings in its beautiful yet minimalist design. The logo is a thin flowing script atop a cloud-filled sky. Below that, one can barely make out a few trees and what looks to be some rather old grave markers on a long forgotten burial ground. In these ways, 'Doliu''s artwork conjures the same sense of despondency and gravity found in the music itself. For some unknown reason, the band decided to package the CD and artwork in a clear DVD case. Whatever their intention, this unique packaging choice sits horizontally atop roughly ten standard jewel cases, making it physically stand out amongst the masses, giving the album a visual appeal that pairs equally well with the allure of the audio.

With three vocalists, there’s a huge shift in sound, and it shapes the record into a titanic display of Clouds’ soundscape. Overall, this is an album that should not be dismissed because you haven’t heard of it. If you’re a doom fan, Clouds’ roster of members should be all the incentive you need to pick this up. For those who will actually take the time to listen to ‘Doliu,’ they will be greeted with an album that highlights the year for extreme metal but also a recording that will stay relevant for many years to come. It’s hard to pin-point an actual single that highlights the album, especially considering that ‘Doliu’ is filled with quality tracks, all with the ability to earn the title.

For those who are unfamiliar with the five stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance), 'Doliu' expertly guides the listener through each of them, exploring the full range of mourning. The album touches on these stages with such authenticity that it would be difficult not to feel some inkling of the pain and suffering that comes with losing a loved one. Having recently lost someone very close to me, I, for one, now feel an even deeper connection to the songs than on previous plays through.

These might all sound like somewhat cliché descriptions for a Doom band, but Clouds brings a depth of honesty that refuses to be ignored. Every piano note is like a sorrow-laden teardrop, every guitar riff a plea to the heavens above, every drumbeat a heart heavy with grief, and every anguish-drenched vocal an affirmation of the despair that these six musicians appear all too familiar with. After all, "doliu" is the Romanian word for mourning.
