With the new album 'Meta', the ever-evolving THY CATAFALQUE transforms once again. The Hungarian progressive/experimental metal project, helmed by composer, lyricist, and multi-instrumentalist Tamás Kátai, takes a heavier, more direct tack than on last years sprawling 'Sgùrr'. Katai effortlessly weaves idiosyncratic progressive passages and folk melodies through this [much] heavier and more metallic album. THY CATAFALQUE's enduring unpredictability makes it one of metal's most unique bands, and 'Meta' is yet another distinct and indispensable piece of their integral catalog of albums.
"This is the seventh album of Thy Catafalque and to me it feels like a step into the past and the future at the same time. There are many friends participating again and probably there is a bit more Hungarian vibe around the songs. Still it is just flowing somewhere in time and space. I have really enjoyed painting these images." - Commented Tamás Kátai
The Greek term ‘Meta’ originally meant ‘beyond, over, through’, which corresponded to my vision of a journey through different times and life forms. I am fascinated by the idea of a circle of life, of existence in another form after the disintegration of our bodies, how we dissolve into earth, and how something very different is built from our cells that is still derived from the most basic elements of life. Musically speaking, a great number of guest musicians have contributed to Meta. Apart from Gyula and Lambert, Attila Bakos and Ágnes Tóth are each back for one song, and also Zoltán Kónya (Gire). Balázs Tóth from Casketgarden appears on lead guitar in one track and there are some oboe and cello as well.
