Boston-based WILDERUN‘s third epic progressive metal masterpiece, entitled Veil of Imagination, was released on November 1.
Formed in 2012, WILDERUN has previously released two albums, 2012’s Olden Tales & Deathly Trails and 2015’s Sleep at the Edge of the Earth. With this slightly different approach to creating music, Veil of Imagination transforms and expands upon WILDERUN‘s already indefinable style, resulting in an album that is at once beautiful and fierce. Clean vocals transform into deathly growls as the band alternates between exquisitely-composed orchestrations and savage metal, all executed with technical prowess.
With elements of progressive metal, folk and orchestral music providing a dynamic backdrop, Veil of Imagination takes listeners through vivid, emotional landscapes, while the lyrics weave tales that are simultaneously fantastical and personal. Veil of Imagination is a stunningly epic, emotional and whimsical odyssey through landscapes of earth and mind.
Says orchestrator Wayne Ingram, “Veil of Imagination is probably the most escapist and unique album we’ve done so far, compositionally and sonically. Creating more experimental orchestral stuff was a lot of fun.”
“I see Veil of Imagination as the culmination of everything we’ve achieved as a band thus far,” says bassist Dan Müller. “The band is tighter and the orchestrations are bigger yet more concise than they’ve ever been. This is also the first album where we chose to record the drums, bass, and rhythm guitar live all together, and I think it’s brought more of that organic live energy to the actual album as a whole.”
“WILDERUN has become one big family and I believe that shines through on this album,” adds drummer Jon Teachey. “When we all got together to form a little folk metal project in 2012, I couldn’t have dreamed that we would be where we are today. I love these dudes and am grateful every day to be part of this group. I hope everyone enjoys this release.”
Veil of Imagination was recorded at More Sound Studios in Syracuse, NY, during February and March of 2018. The album was produced by Wilderun, Justin Spaulding and Andrew Greacen. Veil of Imagination was mixed by the legendary Dan Swanö and mastered by Jens Bogren, Artwork by Adrian Cox.
