Established in 2015, AETHER is an actively performing Polish epic Melodic Death/Folk metal act from Łódź. Releasing the debut EP "Tale of Fire" in September of 2016 provided the band with unexpectedly positive feedback from both critics/magazines and fans. The band has already played more than 40 concerts performing not only in Poland, but also abroad. They also managed to form good contacts, which can be evidenced by the fact that the drums for the record were recorded by Rolf Pilve from Stratovarius, and this is not the end of the guests who appeared on their debut full-length album "In Embers" that was released June 1, 2019. The album contains includes 9 tracks, both new and the EP ones (completely reworked).
Aether's music is death metal, but in a melodic version and with such a folk / viking / power aftertaste. The whole has an epic and even fairy-tale character, as evidenced by the cover and the titles of the songs. The keys and orchestral foundations also play a large role in creating this envelope, however, apart from the landscape background, there is a lot of guitar focus and dynamics here. The numbers are vigorous and thrilling like a sudden gust of wind. They float not only in expressive riff jumps, but also voiced solos. Sounds are galloping to the rhythm of percussive beats, and the whole thing can calm down and give a moment of peace, to break out again in another squall spurt in a moment. This is how the "Tale Of Fire" is built, which at times sounds like the Blind Guardian, thanks to the pure vocals of Artur Rosiński from Lux Perpetua. It gives this power to the metal aura, which is instantly broken by the impact of the guitars and the outspoken, roaring vocal of Michał Miluśki. Besides, such motifs also appear in other works, and Rosa itself appears in "Golden Eyed Fox" and "Insomnia". The album will also feature female vocals performed by Aneta Sikorska. This is an additional attraction of "Last Battle" and "Dream", also highlighted in contrast with the main vocal. The power metal cover is also taken care of by keyboard introductions to "Golden Eyed Fox" and "Dream", as well as all such instrumental "Elements", which on the EP performed the role of intro, and here, just like there, it connects well with the upcoming "Tale" Of Fire. "
When it comes to compositionality, I must admit that Aether is also doing well here. Such "Wildfire Within", "Tale Of Fire" and "Forest" quickly grow for good hits, and the longer I listen to "In Embers" it turns out that there are more and more hits. The band has a knack for writing good songs and can wear them to play the game and an interesting setting. The disc is also impressive in terms of sound and production, and it looks attractive in its entirety.
